Well, according to Onyx Rose... -we keep running away from our natural look (hair) 'coz we don't Believe in Ourselves! Mmh is this true?...
Anasema: "Whoever said it's hard out here for a pimp obviously hasn't met a girl with natural hair. Some of us are fortunate enough to have supportive friends and families while some of us aren't. And if it's not your friends and family criticizing your hair, it's some stranger at the mall giving you a side eye. Most of us who are serious about having natural hair constantly remind ourselves to disregard other people's negativity and ignorance, but sometimes it's easier said than done. As much as some of us like to say how low maintenance natural hair is, sometimes it can be frustrating and time consuming, and people's criticism surely does not make the journey any easier. Even though it seems like an abundance of women are going natural, we are still the minority. There will be people who won't hesitate to let you know that they hate your hair, and there will be times when getting a relaxer seems like the perfect solution to your hair woes. For newly naturals and those thinking about relaxing again, consider the following:
Criticism: -It takes a courageous woman to have natural hair and walk with her head held high despite other people's criticism. If you really want to be natural, you won't allow other people's comments to stop you from doing so. Many of us have been conditioned to think a certain way for a long time, so although people's judgments aren't acceptable, they are understandable to an extent. There is nothing wrong with YOU. The criticizers simply aren't at your level of knowledge and acceptance of natural hair. Give them some time. Some may come around and others won't, but always wear your hair with pride...to the point where OTHERS feel ashamed of criticizing YOU. Keep in mind the reason you went natural in the first place because ultimately, that's what matters the most.
Frustration w/ Care and Styling: - Do you feel overwhelmed? Try to keep your regimen simple enough for you to follow consistently (one that works well within YOUR schedule). Some people's regimens are very long and detailed, but that doesn't mean yours has to be. Experiment. Figure out what products and techniques work for you. Once you find something that works, stick with it. Only worry about whether you're doing too much or too little if you start experiencing an increase in breakage or dryness and if you aren't retaining length.
- If you're having an issue with styling, there are too many tutorials on Youtube for you not to to take advantage of them. I think it's safe to say that everyone can twist their hair. If you're tired of wearing the same 'ol twists, search for videos on variations of twists and how to style them--same thing goes for braids, wash 'n go's, updos, etc. Don't underestimate your ability to style your hair nicely. It might take some time to learn, but with persistence, it can be done.
Overall tip: BE your number one inspiration and support system, and trust in your ability to make the right decisions for your life and your hair."
